Every fan walking into the stadium will pass under the Lion.
So will the recruits on their first visit, the alumni coming home, and every visiting team on its way in.
The Lion is a Zahner ImageWall: thousands of variable-size perforations in 1/8 inch aluminum plate. Up close, the wall reads as a perforation pattern. From a distance, it reads as the Lion.
By square footage, this is one of the smaller assemblies on the project. It carries more of the building's identity than any other surface, and this building carries plenty: the first on-campus football stadium in North Alabama's history.
Zahner's Drop & Lock system arrives with every component CNC-cut, and it installs sealant-free with no exposed fasteners on the face. The perforations run straight across the panel joints, so the image never breaks at a seam, and that is exactly what makes the installation unforgiving.
The wall is twenty-four panels, twelve across and two high, forty feet wide, and the Lion is only as true as the alignment from panel to panel.
Our Field Team set control lines from the approved shop drawings and held module and reveal, course by course.
Our Production Team worked through several alignment questions with Jason Lericos, Zahner's project manager on the job. He gave us clear, fast answers every time, and it shows in the finished wall. Thanks, Jason.
